 | 02:28 pm - Wonderlands
Thanks to rhiamon I learned about Wonderlands social network and decided to join today! :) It looks like it is more geared towards the entire fantasy genre instead of focusing on a sub-genre like fairies. And this makes me very happy as while I enjoy fairies, I really do enjoy the more broad genre of fantasy more. :)
I hope to see you there! :) Current Mood: artistic

 | 01:46 pm - Vacation all I ever wanted... Vacation have to get away!
We leave tomorrow on vacation and we are SO excited!!
We fly out to Denver tomorrow, spend a few days there and then head up to Cheyenne WY to see the capital and then up to Casper WY. How cool is this - we are going to a minor league baseball game in Casper - their team is called the Casper Ghosts! So cute! What else would you call a baseball team from Casper? After a night in Casper we are heading out to Jackson Hole to see the Grant Tetons and Yellowstone! I don't know if we'll get out to Old Faithful, but we are mostly interested in the Grand Tetons anyway :) Not to knock Yellowstone or anything... Then, on our 3 year anniversary (awww....) we will head down to Salt Lake City for a day or so before flying back home.
Stay tuned for tons of pictures and stories! Current Mood: excited

 | 09:11 am Days never go quite as planned, do they?
Still, yesterday was a good one. With a few hiccups. I was working on the calendars in the morning - had a few roughed up layouts that I sort of liked and wasn't in hate with... and uploaded a preview via FTP to my site and went to get a glass of water.
Came back, and my computer had shut down. DOH! I had forgotten that the night before I was downloading big, big files and set my FTP program to shut down the computer when it finished file transfers. So, of course, when it finished up with that one little file, it shut down the computer - including all the open files in InDesign and Photoshop. DOH!!
I did get some designs up, but no product photos, and at about 5, I remembered that it's JULY already, and I have to pay artists. Those pesky artists.
I also had an accident involving our new hammock. (A co-worker of Jake's evicted their big free-standing hammock that they never use and he brought it home and set it up in front of the house.) I accidentally went outside when I let the dog out and accidentally sat down on it. It was fully in the sun, and my photon-starved skin said 'YES' and the next thing I know it's half an hour later and I'm stretched out on that thing petting Norway and soaking up rays.
Woops.
I also picked up our farm share. Not sure I mentioned that here! It has been SO SO worth it so far! We've gotten big totes full of greens - and I'm only getting a half-share. Delicious, yummy, tasty FRESH greens.
Work now. LAST DAY. (Maybe. Sort of.)

 | 03:29 pm - Figurines up for sale!!! Hi Everyone,
I am going through each and every box and carton of figurines....aaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!!! I have managed to find a carton of each and got them signed so I can fill my whole sale orders. I put them up on the site as well because I think that number can tide me over until the rest are looked over. They for the most part are VERY well done so I am very pleased over all.
Anyway they are 16.00 each and up for sale on the site:
http://www.ashevans.com
I will be sorting through cartons all week and weekend long so I may not have much else to say. Before they came I was partially through a painting which I want to post. My unicorns keep selling out LOL.
Have a good one everybody!! Current Mood: busy

 | 09:18 pm - Oleander Hi everyone, I have another new fairy painting to show!
Oleander 8x10in. Watercolor and colored pencil on 140lb cold press paper. Here is the fairy of Oleander, perched atop the branches and magenta blossoms of her favorite plant. I have several oleander bushes right in front of my house, and they wanted to be painted!
****
So I finished her after all :) -- I still think she has contrast issues, but I think I like her in general. It was really, really hard!!! The flowers were originally white, but I ended up changing them to the other shade of oleander. Now we are watching "Vantage Point" which is pretty interesting so I guess I'll get back to it!

pps. http://www.cnn.com/2008/CRIME/07/01/killing.spree/index.html happened a block or so from matt's dad's restaurant, a few hours before we'd gone over there for dinner. apparently the police came through with guns out to search the bathrooms and such because he'd called from a store near by, then found him on the roof of a bar.

 | 04:21 pm - YES. I get tomorrow off. Thursday, I'll have some work to do, then Friday is the 4th and I will be off until Tuesday.
Tomorrow I have the following plans:
Calendars. Product photos. More designs up at EMG. And, orders. I'm fairly well caught up to where I need to be on these.
Tonight, I will ink further on the Morrighan piece. Slowly, slowly coming along.
I got 10 designs up yesterday, and an email out to the update list. Still need to email the EMG-Zine update list.
That Ren faire thingy that I finally decided not to do last weekend? Got canceled because of rain. Very glad I hadn't invested much energy into it. They're going to try again for next year. Maybe I'll do it then! (Because, of course, I won't be busy or anything NEXT year...)
Gaming tonight. My big plans are to bake pizzas and ink the Morrighan. Maybe blow something up, perhaps shoot some nuns. You never really know what will happen with our group. Which - oh! That's a question I've been meaning to ask!
Is drawing while hanging out considered rude?
I am not keen on 'hanging out' for the sake of 'hanging out.' I like to have something to do in my hands, and my something to do is generally art. Every so often I zone into my art and lose track of the conversation, but for the most part, I just doodle (or ink tedious texture) while paying some amount of attention to the goings-on.
Do you do this? Do you find that if someone does it to you, you feel slighted? My gaming buddies are very tolerant with me, but I've often itched to pull out a little sketchbook when conversations fail to entrance me (which is... like all the time, because I have the attention span of a gnat) in other situations, too, with people who maybe aren't artist-tolerant.
Probably most of the folks on my FL are artists, or know them, so maybe you aren't the best folks to ask...
But it's something I was wondering.

 | 12:28 pm - So it's Tuesday I am currently struggling mightily with a painting! The sketch was so lovely, I thought it would be easy -- nope. I really hope it turns out. I am quickly realizing that I know very little about painting dark skin tones, and this fairy has very dark. I really want it to turn out!! I have had to dig out my colored pencils though to get the highlights in, because it just wasn't working with the watercolor *or* gouache. I think this would have been easier as an acrylic piece. Oh well. I'd like to get the technique down for very dark skin tones, because I think there should be more fairies with them. :) I musn't give up, even if this particular painting doesn't turn out. I found a song on Amazon mp3 that I've seriously been searching for since highschool. It's called "At the Bath" by Michael Stearns, and is just so... serene and refreshing. It's definitely one of his older ambient pieces so is hard to find, so I was super stoked to find it on Amazon!! I used to listen to the Hearts of Space radio program a lot as a teenager, and this song was on it once. Been searching for it ever since. I am 31 now, mind you. @_@ Now if I could just find that OTHER Hearts of Space song I loved so much, heheh!! That one I don't even have a name or artist for, so it's very hit and miss. I just keep trying artists that kind of sound like that style and hope for the best. There is a gigantic airplane that has been flying over our house about every hour today -- it is in fact the largest water carrier jet in the world. It is here to help us fight the fires. There are over a THOUSAND fires burning now, they just keep multiplying and then conglomerating! It goes to the lake and scoops up something like 60,000 pounds of water and then goes and dumps it on the fires. It's pretty cool to see it flying over the house.

 | 11:08 am - Purrsnickety Figurines are here and in stock!! I got roughly 4 hours of sleep last night and I was woken up by the trucking company telling me the figurines would be here in an hour!!! Johnnie rushed home from work to help out. We just got finished hauling 80 cartons of stuff into the house. Lord!!! 80 cartons at 8lb a piece was 640lb!! I still have to go through them all and note the damages if any.
Here is a pic of the skids in front of our house(and me too looking awesome with no make up :(

Well they are here! I will be adding them to the website and filling all my pre orders this week. Anyone who orders this week will be shipped ASAP.
Well I am off to shower and wade through a whole lotta boxes!!!
PS Happy Birthday Loki!!!! My cat is 2 today :)

 | 07:21 am - Wall-E - with an LJ-cut for spoilers, don't worry! We saw Wall-E Saturday night. Let me just say that I LOVE Pixar movies!! I love Disney movies (although I prefer the older ones - Ah, melstra, Sleeping Beauty and apple pie with pears in it....). It took me some time to percolate on this, but the reason I love Pixar and Disney movies so much is the dialog!
