01:39 pm - Dragon Sculpture Here's something a little different (I'm really excited!). It is a sculpture I made based on my last ACEO card "Rain Dragon" I have been watching the process of Annie Rodrigue's gorgeous prototype sculpture "Little Batty Princess". It made me realize how much I've missed sculpting myself. And I really liked the idea of making a sculpture from a painting. I know this isn't a novel idea by far, it's just usually when I sculpt I create a whole new character. I've never done a figure from something I've painted first. So I made this little dragon. I'll be putting it on eBay soon, this is just a little sneak peak. If anyone has an idea of where pricing should start, I would gladly welcome suggestions.

"Rain Dragon" Sculpture (sculpey over wire and alluminum form, acrylic paint, acrylic sealer, fake floral stem, apoxy, hot glue) Yes it is quite a mixed media piece. The dragon is about 3.5" high about 4.25" holding the leaf And here are some more pictures:

I've seen your artwork on this and your sculpture is STUNNING!!! wow great job! just had to let you know:D
too cute.. you have really captured his joie de vivre with your sculpture.. i am in awe of your art ability and to transfer the same feel for the character in different mediums.. i know some stitching girls who willl love seeing him , given how much they loved the aceo of him
Thanks Fudgey!! I've been sculpting for about as long as I've been drawing (since around the age of 5) and I know people talk about "natural talent" a lot but I think there's also something to be said for time. You do anything long enough, you'll get good at it; or at least better at it than you were before :) Thanks too, for sharing this little dragon with the stitching ladies!

He is adorable I absolutely love him.
Oh, wow! He's amazing! :D I've been wanting to get into sculpy for awhile. This is really really inspiring.
Hi April! Thanks!! You definitely should try some sculpy. Be sure to use aluminum foil as an armature (for example, if you want to have a sphere shape, more than 1/4" diameter, use aluminum foil inside it. You make a ball of it about the size you want and then add a layer of sculpy overtop. This cuts down the bake time and makes sure the sculpy cures properly). Hope that helps :)
